Find the recipe for you

There’s a recipe out there for everything, and I’m not just talking about food. If you want to accomplish a goal, but don't know where to start, find the recipe. Chances are pretty good that someone has done what you want to do. Want to lose weight? Create a successful business? Write a book? Bake a Cake? Whatever you want to do there’s a recipe that will lead you to a successful result. 



Once you've found a recipe that works, you can tweak it to make it a better fit for you. Use books, podcasts, and the massive resource that is the internet to find the people who have done what you want to do. When you have found the recipe that you're going to use, follow through and see what works. Everyone is different and your starting circumstances will be different from those who you're learning from. Take the pieces that work for you and drop the parts that don’t. 


If you look at the people that are performing at a high level in any field they will share many of the same habits. Look for those parallels and then do what they do. Find the rule for the results that you want to get and follow the rules.


At first you will have to throw a bunch of stuff at the wall and see what sticks, the benefit of having a recipe is you'll know where to aim. Track your results and see what is contributing to the results that you want. Eliminate what doesn't work and keep adjusting your methods. Once you know the steps to your recipe, you can work on the technique of each step and becoming more efficient. 


Lets run through a real world example of how this would look. 


Choose your goal: Losing 10lbs


Who do you need to emulate: Someone who's lost 10lbs


Find people who have done what you want to do: you come across two people who have both lost 10+ pounds. One person exercised everyday for X amount of time so many days a week and didn’t adjust their diet and lost the weight. The second person didn’t exercise at all, but they adjusted their diet and lost the weight in the same amount of time.


Choose the recipe that works for you: You currently have an injured leg so you decide that adjusting your diet will be the better recipe for you.


Follow the recipe: Do what that person did to get the result that you want. By following a recipe first you will be able to see what works for you and how you can improve on the recipe to best suite your life.


You can use this recipe system for any area of your life. When you have used the recipe to get the results that you want and have done this a few times, you'll be able to go off recipe because you know the principles to get what you want. 


Just like in cooking once you know the principles and techniques to get the desired flavour, you can trust yourself and cook to taste. How can you use a recipe to create the dream life that you've always wanted?
