Why I use affirmations.

Affirmations are what you tell yourself to affirm where you want to go and what you want to become. This may sound corny as all F, because it is, but I still do it. Everyday write out what you want to achieve or who you want to become. You can have affirmations around any area of your life: money, relationship, health. The more specific you are with your affirmations the clearer you will be able to visualize yourself behaving in that way and therefore the more effective it will be.

Why would a logical guy like me partake in something so seemingly woo woo and impractical?

Because I believe they work. There’s is a more logical explanation for why affirmations work and Im going to run you through a quick experiment that will hopefully show this to you.

Look around the room you're in and take note of everything that you see that’s blue. Commit everything you see that’s blue to memory because you're going to be tested. Now close your eyes. Once your eyes are closed list off everything in the room that was the colour red. Chances are that if you actually did this experiment you will have a hard time listing very many things that were red. This is the power of focus and by using a tool like affirmations it refocuses us on what we want to be seeing. If you tell yourself negative shit all day you will find the negative in your life, you will look for it and even when it’s not there you will create it. By focusing on where we want to go with our lives and the results that we want to get, we start to see those things in our life. If you believe that you can do something you will find a way to make it a reality. Affirmations are a way to find that belief and reinforce it. You might start out thinking it’s bullshit, but if you keep writing them out you will eventually get the result that you've been writing about proving that affirmation true.

The affirmation is only made true through the hard work that it will take to reach your goal.

If you tell your mind something and write it out everyday, you will want to keep the continuity of that belief by taking the necessary actions. For example if you wanted to be in better shape and you repeated the affirmation I'm fit and healthy every day for a year, I can guarantee you at the end of the year you would be in better shape. When you say that to your subconscious mind your conscious mind starts making decision that align with what you said. It could be simple things like skipping dessert or going to the gym an extra day each week, but eventually those small almost unnoticed decisions will leave you with extreme results.

This is why I use affirmations, because I want to be very clear on what I’m telling my subconscious mind. Affirmations aren't magic, but I believe they are effective. Choose how you talk to yourself carefully, because your brain will make it a reality.

If your interested in learning more about affirmations there's a great book called Law of Attraction by Michael J. Losier. The book looks super cheesy, it has rainbow colours on it, but I assure you it’s one of the best books explaining the law of attraction and well worth a read.
