How small actions lead to massive results

How to get results in any area of your life by taking one small step everyday:

 

Start today.

 

Sometimes I catch myself reading or watching videos of people who are super successful in their field and I find myself thinking, "how the F did they become so successful?!" As if it happened over night. Anytime this happens I have to remind myself that it didn't happen over night; that person worked their tail off day in and day out for years and this seemingly instant success is the result of that effort. The compound effect of small actions taken over time is what leads to success in all areas of life.

 

 

Every action we take has a positive or negative effect on that area of our life.

 

For example, if you eat a greasy cheese burger, that will have a negative effect on your health, but if you choose a green salad it will have a positive effect on your health. Eating one burger or one salad is not going to make you fat or skinny, but if you slam back burgs all day every day you're going to wake up in the future and wonder why your jeans don't fit. This is fairly easy to see when it comes to your diet, but it holds true for every area of your life.

 

One of the best examples of the compound effect is in the area of finance. If you save money every month and put that money into investments that are steadily growing you will soon have a large sum of money. The more money you put into that account and the more time you give the interest to work its magic the wealthier you will be. Contributing 50 dollars to an investment account one time isn't going to make you rich, however contributing small amounts every month, year in and year out will lead to you being able to retire and drink mimosas all day while you live off of the interest.

 

 

The thing about investing and eating right is that it is simple to do, but it is also simple not to do. Doing those small things regularly is what leads to getting great results. I read this story about Jerry Seinfeld’s writing habits, he would mark an X on his calendar everyday that he wrote jokes and would try and make the chain of Xs as long as possible. The moral of the story is that sitting down and writing jokes one day isn't going to make you a successful comedian, but if you string together a few years of daily writing and practicing your material it would be hard for you not to reach a certain level of success.

 

We hate to hear that the answer to all our problems is hard work. It is satisfying to hear the story of overnight success or a lucky break because it frees us of the thoughts that if we just worked harder, practiced more, ate better, hit the weights, then we too could be living our dream life.

 

We have the power to improve our lives.

Eat more vegetables, show up early, do the business building activities that are a pain in the ass but you know you need to do, and watch as your life changes.

I wish there was a magic pill. "Take this and get happy, healthy and wealthy."

 

The magic pill is this:

Show up and do what you need to do, and then do it again, and again, and again. Results take time so enjoy the process. If you're in a job you hate, working harder isn't going to make you happier even if you end up making more money.

 

If you're trying to make running your thing but you hate running, find an exercise you like and do that. It's going to be hard to stick with something if you hate the day to day of it. This doesn't mean it will be easy at first but you should find some joy in the process.

 

Focus on one thing you can do to make your life better and do that everyday and once thats part of your routine add another thing in a different area until your living your ideal days getting better every day.

 

This is how small actions can lead to massive results.
